+==========================================================================+ | | | Questions and Answers on EleBBS | | | | From an August 31, 1998 IRC interview | | with EleBBS developer Maarten Bekers of Elevator Productions | | | +==========================================================================+ Elevator: What made you decide to write a BBS completely from scratch that was almost identical to RA? Tigerwizz: RA is the most popular BBS package in Europe and people like it very much.. Why should i be arrogant and think I could do better while numerous people prooved that most people like RA's way ... Why I started programming a BBS? A challenge ;) Elevator: What language did you write EleBBS in? Tigerwizz: DOS=TurboPascal, OS/2 (console) and win32 (console) VirtualPascal, Win32 GUI Delphi2 Elevator: The current EleBBS currently needs language files, menus and RAMGR from RemoteAccess to use the complete package.. When EleBBS is officially released, do you plan to include a complete package including documenation, a replacement for RAMGR and sample language and menu files? Elevator: I'm currently shopping for a new BBS package.. Not currently using any.. That's why I'm so interested in EleBBS.. :) tigerWizz: Why do i feel like you work for a BBSing magazine? ;0 Elevator: lol tigerwizz: EleBBS doesn't need the languages, menus from RA. It /can/ use them but menus are nothing "steady' in a RA style BBS package and can be created on the fly (ok, there weren't any sample menus). The language file could also be created on the fly. That EleBBS needs RaMgr at the moment is bad and is worked hard on. Documentation I simply cannot do - my English (and time) don't allow it. The 2nd gamma will have include sample menus and a sample language file. Elevator: You've got the right answers to the questions.. :) Tigerwizz: Thank you ;) I also want to say, from playing with EleBBS gamma-1, it appears to be very stable considering it's first version is still under development.. The only problem I have had was when EleBBS was configured incorrectly, it bombed out with a runtime error.. Everything else seems to run perfectly here.. Tigerwizz: Thank you.. I feared for it, and that's why I delayed the release several times. EleBBs has a development cycle of 2.5 years and a beta test round (private) of 1 year because I know how disastrous an buggy release can be - besides one bad release of a BBS package without a good reputation and you can change your name of the package ;) Tigerwizz: Probably an RTE-201.. A lot of those are fixed in gamma 2 ;) Also depends a little on the platform of the vresion Yep.. I'm running the 16-bit DOS version here under Windows 98.. Tigerwizz: Aha.. The Win32 version is even nicer under a Win32 platform ;) Very true, but since I must have telnet support here, I have to be able to use my Netmodem/32.. :) tigerwizz: ;) indeed.. The DOS-16 version is at the moment my favorite also ;)
